Allergic To Food

Hi Foodies! Happy New Year! If you haven’t already, make sure to check out my two latest chef interviews on my Instagram page. You can catch all of my latest chef interviews at @That.BrittGirl.LLC on Instagram.

Let’s dive right in!

As many of you know, I have severe food allergies. Recently, I discovered an incredible community of foodies on Instagram who share the same fears and concerns about food. It’s been a huge relief to find “my people.” The anxiety associated with eating and navigating social interactions can be incredibly challenging for those of us with food allergies. What’s most frustrating is the attitude some people hold towards us, as if we chose to live with such a demanding condition.

I’ve heard the question many times: “Why don’t people with food allergies just eat at home?” Well, it’s not that straightforward. This mindset implies that we shouldn’t visit grocery stores, gas stations, attend work, or even travel. You see my point. Food allergies are on the rise—having doubled in the last decade—and you, my fellow foodie, could very well be next.

Is The Answer To Isolate The People With Food Allergies. Should We Be Separated Like They Did In The 70's? Smokers And Non Smokers. Or Maybe We Should Stay Home So We Do Not Inconvenience The Rest Of The World? I Think Not.

I Propose Stricter Restrictions On Restaurants. There Should Be Someone At All Times That Has The Skill Set To Administer An Epipen. Food Service Workers Should Be Trained On The Severity Of Food Allergies. I Do Not Think Common Food Allergies Such As Peanuts And Dairy Should Be Provided On Airplanes. I Think Anyone Servicing Food Should Be Equip To Provide Emergency Services.

The Stress Of Eating Out Or Simply Enjoying A Normal Life Is Difficult For Those With Food Allergies. In Most Cases People With Food Allergies Are Forced To Eat The Same Food At The Same Restaurant. You Are A Prisoner To Repetition And You Are Always In Hopes That If Something Goes Completely Wrong There Is Someone Near By That Can Assist You With Getting Medical Treatment.

I Think There Is A Preconceived Notion That People With Food Allergies Must Consume An Entire Meal. It Only Takes A Crumb. The Smell Of A Known Allergen Can Cause Someone To Hyperventilate.

I Think Kindness And Compassion Goes A Long Way. No One Should Die Because Of Food.

We Will Pick This Back Up Soon.

I'll Eat With You Later. Peace
